Three years ago, we began what has become a beloved tradition: celebrating Juneteenth, a day that commemorates the expansion of freedom to all people in the United States.
The Reid family has lovingly created an event for our community that brings people of all backgrounds together, strengthening connections and fostering a true sense of belonging. Held just five days after the end of the Songcatchers season, this gathering serves as a joyful culmination of our year. Thanks to the generous donation of hot dogs and sodas from Holy Name Church, we are able to celebrate not only music, but also community.
Children delight in one last day together before summer begins. Parents have the opportunity to connect with one another, orchestra members enjoy time together outside of rehearsals and performances, and our administrative staff can relax and celebrate alongside the families we serve. It is wonderful to see children playing, laughing, and enjoying each other’s company after a year of studying and performing music.
More than a celebration, this day reflects who we are and what we believe in. It is a living expression of the Songcatchers mission: Reaching for Peace Through Music.
